I just bought a bed less than five years ago and it is not comfortable. What does the manufacturer warranty cover?

A: Warranty information comes attached to every new mattress and can be referred to if there are any questions. Unfortunately, according to the mattress manufacturers, comfort is not considered a warranty problem. The biggest issue that comes about with the warranty is body depressions. Many of the innerspring mattresses that we stock carry a ten-year warranty on body depressions deeper than 1 ½ inches. On latex and memory foam beds, the threshold for body depressions can be as low as 1 ¼ inches and ¾ inches respectively. If you bought your mattress from one of our stores, give us a call and we will do all the service on your warranty. (Back to top)

My Eastern or California King Mattress has a firm ridge in the middle with two "valleys" on each side. Why is this happening?

A: When a bed is brand new, it is imperative that you sleep equally across the top so that the foam in the top settles evenly. The more that the middle of the bed is slept in, particularly during the first 6-12 months, the less chance you have of seeing an undulating mattress. Also, sleeping on a mattress that uses high-density memory foam and/or latex such as Tempurpedic® and Nature’s Rest® will have a more uniform top and a longer warranty period. (Back to top)

Which bed is best for a bad back?

A: The old adage says in order to get proper back support a person needs to sleep on the hardest mattress possible. With a more recent scientific emphasis on back and sleep health showing that proper posture is paramount to a firm mattress; our sales associates can help you strike the perfect balance between back support and comfort.

What is the difference between an Eastern and California King Bed?

A: While the two different sizes of a King mattresses are the same surface area on the top, the Eastern King is shorter and wider while the California King is longer and skinnier. The Sleep Shop mainly keeps the Cal King in stock because it is easier to find bedding and linens in the Cal King size, however, we can order the Eastern King size and usually have it delivered within the week. The dimensions of a Cal King are 72"W x 84"L while an Eastern King is 76"W x 80"L.

Beds are getting so big these days. How do I change the sheets and flip my new mattress?

A: All the Major Brands: Simmons®, Sealy®, Spring Air®, Tempurpedic®, Natura®, and Cannon® now feature a one-sided, no-flip design that is very low maintenance. We do recommend, especially during the first year of owning a new mattress that you spin the bed from head to foot, but this process is much easier than turning the mattress over. Also, we carry Tempurpedic® brand sheets that secure around the corners of an extra-thick mattress and make sure the sheets don’t shift while you are sleeping. (Back to top)

How long can you expect a bed to last?

A: Unfortunately, the flame retardants that are used to treat the foam have cut down the life-expectancy of a mattress to an 8-12 year time frame. Most innerspring mattresses carry a 10-year, non-prorated warranty which is serviced by our own experienced mattress technicians. Mattresses that incorporate premium foams such as latex and memory foam will have a higher life expectancy and our selection of Tempurpedic®, Natura®, and Nature’s Rest® latex all carry a 20-year warranty. What if I don’t like my new bed?

A: While we are confident that we can find you a great mattress, we also realize how difficult it is to spend less than a few nights of sleep on a mattress and know for sure that you have made the correct decision. Lucky for you, The Sleep Shop has a 30-day comfort guarantee on any of our mattress sets priced $599 and up. If the mattress set you recently purchased does not meet your expectations for comfort and support, you can come back in and reselect. We at The Sleep Shop feel the greatest accomplishment is getting our customers’ feedback on how much they love their new mattress. (Back to top)
